Background (Spoilers)
Gleipnir, daughter of Leviathan Blackpyre, king of Celore. His daughter is one of many from his legion of concubines. Levi has a wife who he loves but she is unable to give him a child so he uses his concubines to bear him a son to be hier to the throne. But, almost as if he was cursed, after going through hundreds of women and even more pregnancies not a single son was born. Gleipnir is the 13th daughter, out of 679. Aside from Gleipnir, 203 of them are warriors and spellcasters, the other 475 lean more towards living the lavish and noble life. Gleipnir inparticular was the strongest mage among her sisters and was seen as the defacto big sister and most of her younger sisters came to her for guidance and advice frequently. She would go above and beyond to protect her home and her family.
There was a tournament, between Gleipnir, some of her sisters and a good amount of people in Celore. Gleipnir of course won and a good amount of her sisters reached high marks as well. After her feat of power there was an upsurge of suitors and warriors that want strong women like Gleipnir so they began trying to take the rest of her sisters. But her trying to be the big sister, she tried to weed out those who wanted to use and abuse her sisters. So she put herself in a situation where she gets used instead of her sisters. She would seduce the suitors and boyfriends of her sisters to entice them into getting with her instead. After allowing those who fold to her have their way with her, she would expose them proving that they weren’t serious about having a relationship with her sister if they couldn’t resist something as simple as light flirting. So she would run them out the castle and typically Celore as she would torment them for being cheaters. Her sisters hated her for it because the way they saw it, she would take their men, which she was saddened by but she saw it as a necessary evil to keep them safe from men that only wanted to take advantage of them for their status, power and body. Eventually, there was a change in the dynamic. She learned chain magic, an old style of magic made by the Norse Gods making her important to the safety to Celore. Which, her sisters hated even more. As she learned this talent she trained alongside the Celorian Valkyries heightening her status even more, thus widening the gap between her and her sisters. Eventually, a monstrous wolf came to attack the Celore and Gleipnir used her chain magic to enchain it. They began to transport the wolf to the castle to execute and make fur coats out of. But it broke free. She enchained it in larger chains. Which didn’t work, one of the Valkyries advised her to try compressing them to be as thin as a soft silk chain. When she did it, the chain worked. However, 170 of her sisters died 158 of her younger sisters died, her 12 older sisters died and her father Levi lost a hand. Levi was mortified that he lost so many of his daughters as despite not being sons, they’re still his children. He tried to comfort his daughters, especially Gleipnir who was the hardest on herself. She felt that she failed to save her sisters and didn’t deserve the big sister title and passed it to the 14th oldest sister.
Eventually, she felt so unwelcomed by her sisters that she exiled herself because she felt that it was worth it to make her sisters feel safer without her. She feels it is better for her to stop overstepping their boundaries to keep them safe. So she left, and traveled the realm. On her way out she encountered Levi. He tried to comfort and reassure her but she wanted to push him away and spoke harshly to him. The last thing she said before leaving was, “You couldn’t have just been satisfied with daughters, huh? You wanted a son so badly, huh? Well, look where that got you. 509 daughters remaining. And when I leave you’ll only have to worry about 508, one less failure to keep and eye on. Don’t fucking follow me old man.” Levi was crushed but he understands exactly how she felt, he was just like her growing up, so he took the insult to the chin and let her go, so that she may have her time to reflect. As time went on she felt awful about what she did so she would get tattoos to brand herself with runes. The runes on her have actual translations, such as, “The Entangled One”, “The Deceiver”, “The Wolf Lock”, “The Absurd Lock”, “The Failure” and finally “The Open One” these are symbols of penance for her wrongdoings to her sisters.
Eventually, she met someone on her journey a Life Cleric named Lovarian. She was a shy and sheepish ball of stress that Gleipnir would constantly tease and wave her whiles at her to get her flustered and nervous. Eventually, they got close and Gleipnir eventually stopped teasing her. When Lovarian noticed, she asked her why she stopped and she said, “Well now that we got closer and I got to know you a little more, I didn’t think you liked that.” And she responded, “Gleipnir, don’t be silly, it’s a part of you, I’ll gladly let you tease me whenever you want, because its you.” This destroyed Gleipnir and she would continue just to bond with her.
After a while of travel, they ended up in the Wilds and rested for the night. Before heading to bed, they were going to share a meal, a bottle of wine, and a night of passion. They ended up getting ambushed by a Nightwalker. It fired two bursts of necrotic energy at Gleipnir but Lovarian jumped in the way taking the hits and dropping. In a panic Gleipnir sprung into action and chained it up, took Lovarian, and ran. As she was running away, she tried to help her but she had no means of healing her. She was unfamiliar with the area so she tried to find somewhere to save her, but the creature was still able to move, and it used it’s finger of doom to kill Lovander just as Gleipnir escaped the range, killing her. Grief-stricken, furious Gleipnir turned to the monster and said, “If she lived, you could have walked away with your life monster.” A massive light from the Wilds could be seen from Gothica, Humanity and Icetop City as Gleipnir dropped everybit of magic to drop a massive fireball on the Nightwalker, incinerating it instantaneously. Afterwards, she passed out. When she awoke she found herself being brought to safety by the Shaarkorvol Tribe. They took her in and gave her food and water to recover. They saw her kill the nightwalker that was giving them trouble and so they saw her as a hero. She responded with, “I’m no hero.” and she walked herself down into a well and chained herself to a wall as penance. She was there for a week before the party found her.
