"You think killing is hard? Try healing something. That is hard. It requires patience. You can break something in two seconds. But it can take forever to fix it."

Vera Blackmoore is an arcane psychotherapist and shamanistic healer that trained under the Siren Order. She demonstrated great arcane abilities and confidence beneath a stern exterior while battling alongside Croak and Dagger on a number of occasions. Vera was the original recipient of Craig's call for heroes, but passed on it, resulting in Barbatos to take her place. While Vera held some resentment over Barbatos leaving, she exchanged weekly letters with him which bordered on romantic. When Barbatos's letters stopped arriving, Vera realized something was wrong. When she discovered Barbatos had died, she was heartbroken. When Aileen died, she became reclusive and sunk into a deep depression where she refused to eat or bathe. It was with the help of Barbatos and Aileen's mentor, Surkesh that Vera coped with the loss of her best friends, and reopened her clinic where she continues to treat patients of a number of mental illnesses and traumas to this day.

Abilities

Astral Projection. Vera is a highly experienced astral-witch, capable of projecting herself and others through the astral plane. She has been trained to modify her astral projection, to include projecting herself through a willing creature's subconscious. This has allowed Vera to take a very physical approach to treating trauma-induced and arcane-based illnesses within patients. Craig Firebrand referred to her as a psychonaut.

Multi-Dimensional Magic. Like many Sirens, Vera is highly trained in multi-dimensional transmutation magic. She pulls on the volatile threads that give magic its stability, and rewrites it, often creating powerful illusions or spells that defy their intended use. The most common example of this is her astral projection.

Relationships

Aileen "Barbatos introduced Aileen to me some time after he started training under Surkesh. They were both students of his at one point, I think? I always wanted to be as confident and forward as Aileen was. She could walk into a room and start a conversation with the first person she saw. One time, Barbatos and I went to the circus and watched Aileen's act, she was incredible. Everyone in the crowd was on their feet and cheering her name. Aileen just had a way of livening up a room, no matter how big or small it was. She just knew how to talk to people, make you feel heard...make you laugh. When we lost Aileen, it felt like the world got just a little quieter. Just a little."

Andol "Out of everyone in Croak and Dagger, Andol might be the smartest. I'm grateful there's at least one level-headed individual in that group of asinine sellswords."

Barbatos "I hate that where we lived wasn't enough to make you stay. I hate that I wasn't enough to make you stay. I hate that you left. I hate all the stories I get of you. I hate all of the crying people that act like they knew you. I hate the statues and songs of you. I hate that you died. I hate that I feel this way."

Clymene "I don't hate her. I've got no more energy left to hate anymore."

Surkesh "Surkesh was more of a dad to me, than my actual dad. After the double funerals, Surkesh let me scream, and throw things, and blast the trees in his backyard. He said that to heal you've got to hurt and feel things and curse and cry. The old man is wiser than I'll ever be. Wise beyond his years. I see why Barbatos felt so drawn to him as a mentor."
