Trade is our common tongue before blades and blood.
House Whitefang was one of the four smallest of the Goliath Noble Houses. They served Jotunrath as its bankers, merchants, guild savants, and traders. They were silver-tongued, and often relied on their wit and persuasion to deal with their foes.
House Whitefang Origins
While the other major houses were constantly getting into skirmishes and squabbles in the early stages of Goliath society, a group of wealthy Goliaths sought to make a better name for their people. These Goliaths, now known as the Utara Clan, traveled to the mysterious country of Wuxia. There, they met human traders who welcomed such wealth, and a small trade route was established.
Unfortunately, due to the geography of Jotunrath, the Utara Clan had to pass through House Warborn territory to make it to this fabled country of the humans. While returning with a trade deal, warriors of House Warborn mistook these traveling Goliaths as their enemy, and slaughtered them. The remaining members of Utara Clan took no violent actions, but spoke venom of House Warborn, spreading the hatred of this clan like wildfire among their human allies hailing from Wuxia.
In their honor, the remnants of Utara Clan banded together, with the wealth they had, and purchased land from their competing other noble houses of Goliaths. Soon, they established themselves as a minor but still influential noble house. They named the house, Whitefang, in honor of one of the members of the Utara Clan, who still worshipped the Old Gods, even though their pantheon was long dead. One of such gods was known as Lord Whitefang.
Like all Goliath houses, the noble family continues to keep their last name as that of their house, bringing new members constantly into their house.
Role in Goliath Society
House Whitefang serves as the only trade-focused family of Goliaths in Jotunrath. While the other houses are more than willing to trade, they are more willing to take rather than trade if a deal is not in their favor, in the slightest. House Whitefang seeks to remedy the ill-tempered nature of their kin by trading for the ruling party of Goliaths. If House Ironborn currently rules over the other houses, House Whitefang is the first to pledge themselves as the house willing to trade and speak with the other races outside their country.
House Whitefang also brings in a plethora of revenue. While some of the trade deals they make are lucrative, they only share those receipts with their closest members. In the year 105 ADW, the current ruling house of Goliaths, House Jotunkarth, decreed that Whitefang could not enslave humans from Skaalgluvic and sell them as gladiators to the Thenalion Empire. From this point forward, Whitefang relied on simple trades, such as trading Verganium or Kilnir Steel to the human kingdoms who were willing to buy it.
When Queen Drathos conquered the Noble Goliath Houses in the year 1578 ADW, and declared that Jotunrath was to be independently ruled, this angered many of the buyers of Whitefang goods and trade, who were using the unrecognized country as a market. With this independent rule, that would mean that the Whitefang could not freely trade, and Queen Drathos shut down all trades to those that wanted to bend and break the savages.
Whitefang in the Bloody Seven
House Whitefang continued to serve as traders, pledging eternal loyalty to Queen Drathos and the united Jotunrath. However, because of the decree that Queen Drathos made against House Whitefang, their loyalty was never quite assured in the face of the common people. House Whitefang only fought when they absolutely had to, which made Boudeca Warborn question their loyalty.
