It was at the Taijin Monastery that Hakim attempted to find some semblance of peace and belonging, but often struggled to; often fighting, pranking, and being an all-around nuisance to those around him. Hakim believed he was destined to be more like his father than anything and fell hard into the same substance abuse his father did. It was his self-destructive tendencies and rebellious behavior that earned Hakim the nick ''Voodoo Child'' from his grandfather's peers. Especially from the Yoshida family. | |||

Their shared cigarettes under the moonlight turned into sneaking out into Wei-Tao, then into romantic dinners, and eventually marriage. Tuunbaaq taught Hakim how to take responsibility for himself, while he smoothed out Tuunbaaq's rough edges. Together, they saw the injustices that plague Sheng-Lao, and the Alliance, and would go on to found the Fireflies.
