Howdy, love, name's Riley Scarlet! A pleasure to meet you!
-Riley introducing herself

Race Age Height Weight Gender Relatives Hobbies
Human 24 172 cm (5'6) 49 kg (110 lbs) Female Unnamed Parents (Deceased), Goblin Parents (Deceased), Two Surviving Goblin Step-Siblings Traveling, Counting coins, Playing with animals

Riley is a human rogue, and part of the Mystery Group one shot adventure

Appearence

Standing at 5'6, Riley has short black hair and matching eyes. This is hard to see due to her preference for black trenchcoats over a black slacks and top. Alongside her trenchcoat is a matching hood and mask she wears over her nose. She wears a ruby ring that was a gift from her parents on her left pinkie. She has a small cut along the right side of her lips.

Personality (Major WIP)

Despite her look, Riley is very outgoing and friendly to anyone she meets. This makes her very trusting and to a point, naive to others to the point she seems unaware of her surroundings. Because of this, Riley is able to confuse or disturb others, making her unorthodox and out there. While outgoing, this allows Riley unusually perceptive and seem unassuming, but also childlike and highly immature for her age. This has likely mellowed out by her second job.

Riley also has a soft spot for children and animals, despising bullying and harm. When it comes to helping those she generally likes, she can surprisingly stop being an airhead and show open malice and preparation to kill if someone she cares for is in danger, as well as show maturity and a willingness to talk to others who are feeling down. By the second job and rather it's due to the serious nature of the job, or instincts, she can show a high distrust to anyone she meets, often due to the serious nature of the case,

She’s also not a picky eater, partially due to being raised by goblins and viewing all meat as meat, and not eating it before it goes to waste as disgusting and a waste of perfectly good meat. Because of this, she can partake in cannibalism or eating other sentient races as well as someone who would eat a hamburger and not see an issue with it. Despite this, she refuses to kill another sentient being for food. Despite this, watching someone die in front of her can be truamatizing and make her freeze in place.

Riley also has a distrust for wood elves, as her adoptive parents were killed by wood elves. She however, rarely allows that to get by when money is an option or something important is going on and views High Elves in high regards.

Backstory (Spoilers and Major WIP)

Raised by less-than-bright but well meaning goblins after wood elves attacked her family’s carriage, Riley was raised by a growing family which expanded from a single mother and father to 20 siblings. At some point, 18 of these siblings were slaughtered or died of natural causes, her parents as well. Mistaken for a stockholm shocked child, Riley was brought in and raised by a small family of assassins and spies. Teased and mocked for being known as ‘The Goblin Child’ and a mark on her head from a head injury, Riley was used to having food thrown at her and pelted with pebbles or even poisoned and attacked by her own new family.

By 16, the young woman would leave, aiming to find a new life in Meadowcraft. She’s been searching for the village ever since, even at the ripe age of 24.

Equipment

Riley typically dresses light, but is outfitted with a few daggers and a rapier for offense, a shortbow, and her family ring. She also carries a tent, bullets (despite lacking a firearm), as well as rope

Powers and Abilities

  • Deceptive Intellect: Despite her general odd behavior and airheadedness, Riley has displayed moments of catching onto clues faster than she lets on, often able to trick others into thinking she wasn’t paying attention.
  • Magical Aptitude: Despite being more stealth based, Riley has a hand in magical apptitude. This is mostly through a floating invisible hand.
  • Silver Tongue: Riley is almost capable of making friends easily, even if for a limited time
  • Flame Control: Riley has limited ability to conjure flames on her hands
  • Illusions: Riley is capable of limited illusionary abilities.
  • Sleep Inducement: Riley is capable of putting others to sleep, this is hard to do unless the enemy is somewhat weary already
  • Magic Armor: Riley can conjure a mage based armor to enhance her durability
  • Spirit Animal Communication: Riley is able to communicate to small animals with telepathy. She typically names these animals and can use them to aid in tasks such as finding locks and hidden routes with insects or arachnids.
  • Poison Manipulation: Riley has limited experience with creating a spray of poison.

Relationships (Major WIP)

  • Cody Brody - While not knowing him for long, Riley was originally put off by the orc and his heavy scent of weed. However, working with him has let her worry, as she detested the idea of him dying near her. The orc’s smell may put her off, but she knows her battles.

--"He stinks… a lot… but hes so nice to everyone even with his plight. I hope he remains that way.”

  • Dr. Dimitri: Nicknamed Doc

--"Doc is a really smart man! Although, the world is most definetly a map, not a globe- wait... according to this experiment... huh... I owe him an apology, the world is a globe! I wonder... would he turn me into a vampire if I asked?"

  • Elvira Windhelm - She didn’t know Elvira long, but sees a bit of trust in her eyes.

--"I think she’ll be grand as a fighter! Trustworthy even!”

  • Raiah Theron - Riley views Raiah as a young sister, ever since first meeting her, shes viewed her as a cute but tormented soul.

--"Raiah is an adorable little flower. Being known as the 'goblin girl', I can relate to her being bullied. I bet she'll grow to be a major badass! And when she does, I'll be so happy! I miss her so much."

  • Remus - Despite not knowing him for long, Riley views Remus as a good person, nicknaming him Remi or Roman.

--"Remi! The Pig Overlord! Haha! He's a good guy, really! I really wanna' see him accomplish his mission of showing the Kouslands perform more charitable feats! Maybe not talk to people greiving in church though, religious types can be annoyingly very irrational from my experince."

--"Tizzy is from the Astral Plane, right? It's so bizarre, but hes also so tall! And his voice is fun to hear! I hope he can show us around the plane someday!"

  • Tuunbaaq - Rather it was her dislike of Wood Elves or some innate sense, Riley didn’t trust her on sight. She still doesn’t.

--"Something about her is off.”

Summary (WIP)

Riley would first arrive at Hadleigh on her journey to Meadowcraft - a long way off. Her mood in a heavy set of optimism, she would stumble at the gates while dancing and singing a Goblin song, stopped by the concerned guards. Once allowed in, she would catch wind of the sudden curfew and offer her aid with the disappearances. Alongside Dr. Dimitri, Ti’zzerith, and Remus, she would serve as comic relief and aid in looking for any uncertain clues and try to act as a big sister figure to the clift-lipped Raiah, not put off by her unusual appearance but also aid in comforting her when insulted by children and even using her abilities to have a phantom dog for the girl to pet.

When back with the group, Riley and the detectives cornered the barber and chased him through a series of booby trapped caverns, finally catching him and the pie baker as they had the group and Raiah at gunpoint. As the girl killed her captors, they helped Raiah leave and Riley prepared to search for Meadowcraft… and instead wound up in the Salt Bay.

Spending a few months among the Tortles and staying at an abandoned bungalow, Riley would receive a letter requesting aid at Val-Aldin to help with mysterious suicides. The woman would take a carriage to arrive - least she found herself in the Astral Plane or the Conclave knowing her sense of directions. Upon arriving at the High Elf capital, Riley would meet with her friends Ti’zzerith and Remus, and meet Elvira Windhelm. After getting caught up, Riley would start acting… off… instead of jovial and devil may carish, she would start to be more focused and on edge, asking questions and being on alert. This would come in handy as the group, met up with the orc Cody Brody and began to interview people - from a dwarf student who was terrified of her sudden suicidal tendencies to a skittish Dragonborn professor named Vuulkaaren Qegoth, who was an advent reader of J Edgar Alan, and finally, a man named Mathias, future member of the Forsaken.

With the list of suspects narrowed down - the group would head to Val-Aldin’s clocktower, where they would begin to chase down Jinko, the serial killer behind the mystic suicides. Before Riley could force him to sleep, he threatened to kill Elvira Windhelm, making her pause. As Remus pinned the murderer’s hands to the wall and helped with the arrest, Riley would last be seen at a small gala, struggling with the suit she bought.

Trivia

  • Riley is made to be a parody of the edgelord archetype, from her backstory to her personality being a complete inverse and actions. In turn, it ended up turning her into a chunnibyo
  • Originally, Riley was made to be a cyberpunk character in a story - completely different attitude however
  • Riley’s favorite food are scones and cooked rabbit, her favorite drink being goat milk
  • Riley is atheist, believing the ‘Gods’ to be just people who unlocked hidden science and unwilling to share
  • If in the real world, Riley would be Chinese-Irish mixed
  • Riley’s ring is a heirloom from her goblin parents. As such, shes never without it, even when showering or in bed. In-game, it allows a +1 save to save checks. But in-universe, she's so protective of it that she gains a small bit of adrenaline to protect it.
  • Riley’s last two siblings live in Meadowcraft
  • Riley's voice is inspired by Lena "Tracer" Oxton from Overwatch
  • By the current timeline, Riley would be in her early or late 40s
  • Riley usually never prays, but seeing the miracle of Cody being saved when she did pray to his God: Eldath, has put her in a stupor, likely chalking it to his magical prowess.
  • When growing up, Riley was an advent reader of J Edgar Alan, finding his poetry something to reflect on her depression of losing two sets of parents.
  • Riley's dream jobs are to work as a seamstress, at an orphanage, or open a textile shop.
