Barbatos

Half-Orc, AKA ‘Barbatos the Benign’

Appearance

Described as a surprisingly scrawny Orc, but burley by any other race's standards, Barbatos had long, thing dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. Many in Barbatos's presence described a benign, if not protective aura about him.

Backstory

Early Life

Barbatos was born on the edge of the island of Sankofa to a Paladin Father and Priestess mother. From the moment he could speak, Barbatos rebelled against his parents and was a regular pest, growing into a huge problem, around his village. Barbatos pranked, vandalized, and stole from nobles on a regular basis. He had grown into such a delinquent, that Barbatos's father up and disowned him, leaving him to eventually join a band of armed bandits on the other side of the island. What Barbatos learned very quickly from a life of pillaging and marauding, was that where there's bandits, there's heroes.

On a carefully planned raid of a small village, Barbatos and his mercenaries were ambushed by an unnamed monk from an unknown school. All twelve heavily armed bandits, Barbatos included, were beat down within a matter of minutes. Rather than turn Barbatos in to the island guard, the monk brought Barbatos back home to their monastery, and trained him. At the monastery, Barbatos learned how to tap into his inner rage, harness it, and release it in the form of powerful Paladin magic. When Barbatos returned to Sankofa, he carried with him a new, benign aura. Barbatos would spend the next several years protecting Sankofa from all matter of bandits, mercenaries, and the occasional evil wizard. But Barbatos felt himself getting restless on the island, he felt himself wanting more. Barbatos's search of "more" found him in the form of a letter from legendary adventurer and hero, Craig Firebrand.

Croak and Dagger

Barbatos was one of the founding members of Croak and Dagger, joined by K'jalis, Clymene, Omerok, and Robynn. His short time spent with his new friends, his new family, was some of the most fulfilling, happiest times of his life. With Croak and Dagger, Barbatos taught himself how to control him impulses, to use his rage to vanquish evil. But as said earlier...his time with them was short. Stories of Barbatos's sacrifice at Cataclysm are told to this very day. Stories of the long hero who ran towards Yvirth, the Great Eclipse, stood in it's face, and roared as flames consumed him while protecting Clymene.

Abilities

Big Green Tank. Barbatos has demonstrated an almost supernatural ability to withstand punishment and continue fighting.

Deity Champion. After his sacrifice during Cataclysm, Barbatos joined Justinia's service as a Paladin. Since then, he's become her Champion and possesses otherworldly strength, speed, and endurance.

Relationships

Aileen - "Hahaha...oh, what a loud mouth. Cocky too. Now don't get me wrong, she's pretty handy with a sword but lacking in the uhh...common sense department. And that's saying something coming from me! Ha! Aileen is great, a real trooper. Open to everything I'm teaching her and looks real excited to be getting into some real fights. I've got a letter all made up and ready to send to her right after we get done with this Citadel business."

Vera - "I'm uhh... not... good with words. Vera knows that about me. I sort of start talking...to...to her and I kind of... freeze up? She always looks so sad all the time, and I think it's something I said...or did? I'll make things right V. One of these days I'll...I'll talk to you. Really talk to you."

Laura - "Power suit! Power suit! Power suit! Ohhh, I have GOT to get me one of those. Laura is a bonafide badass! S-She tore this minotaur's head RIGHT off, like right off, THEN just drops it on the table like..."Sup?" Holy shit. Man...things are kind of quiet without her. And I know she was already sort of quiet? But Laura was like...a presence. You knew when she was in the room and now everything sort of feels really empty."

Omerok - "One. Weird. Motherfucker. Dude is super weird but...like I'm not scared of him? He's just really zen and nice about everything, and it's not something you see in a lot of folks. He's just so nice it's...weird! Haha, nothing but love man I promise!"

Incineryn - "Incineryn was like a freaking grenade... when she went off, she'd burn everyone around her. Now it's like...a good thing when it's against bad guys but...Incineryn's been hurting a lot of good people too. I don't know, everyone seems like they like her and she's super good at burning shit, I just wish she'd have chilled out more...you know? Her sister...uhh...Maribelle, right? Yeah...her sister is taking losing Incineryn really rough. I mean no duh, it's her sister. I've lost people too...maybe I can...talk to her. Let her know I've got her back. I don't know man. We've been losing a lot of people lately."

Clymene - "Clem! Our star sharpshooter! She's a shy kid, a real wallflower type, but I like her! She looks at me like I'm some big superhero haha...hey I'm working towards it! Clem's always talking herself down and talking me up, I don't what it is. If I'm being honest, I wish I had half of the confidence Clem did when she's sending arrows down-range. I know you guys don't see it, but trust me. I think Clem's gonna go far. Just you watch."
