The Burning-Banner War was a short war between the Horde and Cinderdale (later joined by the Kingdom of Goldmask). The war lasted 138 days, from 6 Second Seed 798 to 23 Hearthfire 798.

The name of the war comes from the banner of the combined Cinderdale-Goldmask army, which was enchanted with a continual flame.

History

Before the war, Cinderdale was massively in debt to Vask Sil, Governor of Stormhold. Vask offered to absolve the debt in exchange for Cinderdale officially joining the Kingdom of Goldmask. Cinderdale's King Azar III was resisting the deal at the will of the people, most of which wanted to remain independent. The Horde was living in tribes spread throughout the Stonehills, loosely connected but following the leadership of Lumia Snick for warfare.

The war began by the Horde unexpectedly attacking Clackum Falls, which was then the capital city of Cinderdale. At first the Horde caught the unsuspecting Cinderdale off-guard and quickly took the cities of Clackum Falls and Zulaport. The royal family retreated to Mudwell, which became the new capital of Cinderdale to this day. Not long after, the Horde took West Wave and began closing in on smaller villages between the cities.

Things weren't looking well for Cinderdale when Azar III agreed to become part of the Kingdom of Goldmask. Very soon after, soldiers from the Kingdom stepped in, taking the Red River from Drain to Clackum Falls, striking the Horde in what they thought was their most secure city. With the well-trained, well-equipped reinforcements from the Kingdom, the war quickly turned in Cinderdale's favor. They retook Clackum Falls then began pushing west toward West Wave, retaking villages along the way.

The war lasted until the 23rd of Hearthfire, when the Horde gathered all their forces on ships in Zulaport and left, sailing north until that night when they reached Mizzeton. The unsuspecting gnomish city-state of Mizzeton was completely caught off-guard, unprepared for war, and the city was taken quickly before the night was over. With all Horde forces out of the Kingdom of Goldmask and Cinderdale, the war was effectively ended.

After the war had ended, Azar III was pressured into accepting Cinderdale's place as a part of the Kingdom and as part of Stormhold, despite some public outcry. The war also united the Horde into a much more cohesive unit, all being unquestionably lead by General Lumia Snick, the Cruel. They would very soon control all of Rortethra. Refugees from Mizzeton went anywhere they could. Some went west to Frostpoint and other Northern Realms towns, some went south to Inenbom, some went east to Voricia, and other went to found small settlements of their own.
