The Maelstrom Empire, or First Kingdom, was a kingdom that existed where much of the Kingdom of Goldmask is today.
The Maelstrom Empire arose shortly after Illefarn fell. The capital city of the empire was Stormcastle, and stood where New Stormcastle now stands. The king of the Maelstrom Empire held the title of Lord of Stormcastle and wore the Belt of Stormcastle.
The Empire fell during the Spellplague.
