Freemark, also known as the City of the First Men, is the first established city of the Human Kingdom and has a population of roughly 20,000 people. Freemark is a political hub where some of the oldest noble families and courts meet, collaborate, or clash with one another. Towards the end of Zero Year, the strongest, surviving humans banded together and pooled their resources together. For decades they fought back invasions, snuffed out traitors, and built the first economic city in the known region. It was a city finally free from the disease, starvation, and conflict that claimed so many others. They called it the Free City, later renamed to Freemark. The history of the First Humans still decorates Freemark's noble courtrooms and houses, a testament to what working together can do for a nation's legacy.

Government

Freemark is currently ruled through a Monarchy, where the Bannerhill family lineage has ruled for the past twenty years. King Randall Bannerhill's son, Arthur Bannerhill, is next in line to lead when his father chooses to step down, or passes away.

Defenses

Freemark is surrounded by several high stone and cement walls, each equipped with battlements with an arsenal of medieval anti-siege equipment. Freemark is also home to the Order of the Solar Temple as well as the Galencourt Knights, a traditional and old order of knights. Inside the city, City-Guard man garrisons, road patrols, and watchposts very similar to Meadowcraft.

Notable Locations

The Cathedral of Light A large temple built in dedication to Pelor where the First Men prayed for protection from their enemies and the growth of their city during Zero Year. In return for their city's survival, the First Men dedicated hundreds of their own soldiers to serve as holy warriors to fight in the name of Pelor. These warriors would eventually grow and expand into the Order of the Solar Temple. Their cathedral, a captivating yellow and grey marble building adorned with stained-glass windows, a mural, and barracks, remains standing at the city center. Inside is a cathedral that dwarves that of any other religious following and a preserved mural that dates back to Zero Year. While the presence of the Order brings peace of mind to most, some believe their involvement in politics is problematic. This divide still exists today and has grown into a large discourse across the realm...how much of a role should the Gods play in the decisions the people make?

The Ember Assembly-House One of many courthouses in Freemark, but the only one where the Human Council meets. The Ember Assembly-House is where the Human Council assembles to discuss their individual kingdoms and their place in the Alliance. While the kingdom of Meadowcraft sits on the Alliance seat, they speak with the other leaders on their choices. No single person really rules over all the human kingdoms. Meadowcraft, Freemark, Sheng-Lao, and Kartenheim make up the Human Council who meet in the old halls of the Ember Assembly-House where the decisions that pushed them all into the empire they have now, were first made.
