Sankofa, also known as the Sunken City, is a small island just off the coast of Sheng-Lao with roughly 5,000 people. Sankofa had one of the richest, most diverse cultures in the Alliance, with a large collective population of Triton, Genasi, Elves, and Tortle. Sankofa was a city of diverse culture where famous artists and musicians went to feel inspired and find their next muse. A bad day at the beach was better than a good day at work. After the Sankofa Tragedy (see Sankofa Accord), Sankofa has become an eerily quiet, painful reminder of the past. The music finds itself echoing through empty halls and artistic murals cut abruptly in half at the memorial site, where so many lost their lives in the blink of an eye.

Government

Sankofa is ruled by a democratic council of elected officials who collectively handle the commercial, judicial, and environmental concerns of the island.

Defenses

Sankofa is an island in the middle of the ocean that relies on moderate security all around the island. Defenses include battlements lined with long-range cannons, alarms, and small ballista placements.

Notable Locations

The Muse Halls Live musical performances and artistic viewing parties were once held in the underground, maze-like tunnels of Sankofa. Gorgeous murals used to decorate every slab of rock. Now, some remain half-finished or wiped out entirely in the blast. New murals depict terrible loss and tragedy, showing a city still very much recovering. The Muse Halls have become smuggling routes for bandit groups that laid claim to them, or overtaken by foul beasts that were awakened by the explosion.

The Sankofa Memorial Built on top of the epicenter of the explosion in the middle of a huge body of water. A large white, marble obelisk covered from top to bottom in the names of those that were lost during the Sankofa Incident. Colorful ribbons, portraits, and belongings are laid all around the obelisk.
